Dribble the ball as fast as possible five metres to the first cone, and come to a complete stop, placing your foot on top or in front of the ball. I’ve scored a decent amount of goals with the toe shot. It’s far from ideal but can be effective in high pressure situations.

This slightly more complex drill needs only the shooter. Set up an agility ladder around twelve yards from the penalty area, followed immediately by three cones in a straight line – two yards apart. Place three balls at equal distances apart in the ‘D’, and you’re ready to start. The shooter must hop through the agility ladder, weave in and out of the cones then take their first shot. The drill should be repeated until all three shots have been made. It’s important that this drill is completed at a high tempo. The key points to look out for here are shot accuracy, shot selection and staying in control. Pass, pass, shoot

Pass, pass, shoot

Shoot low. It's harder for a keeper to reach shots along the ground because it's further for them to travel. It's easy for them to jump up and save, but much harder to crouch down and get it. Be aware of the opposing goal keeper’s position often times; a shot is successful because of when it is taken, rather than how it is taken. The beauty of soccer is that it doesn’t matter how the ball gets in the net – a goal is a goal. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but you must always remember the mantra of the goal scorer: “You can’t score if you don’t shoot.” Whether you’re new to football, or have been playing for a while and are looking to take your skills to the next level, the hundreds of different techniques required to reach pro status can be intimidating. From strong communication among teammates, to being constantly aware of the opponents around you, there is certainly a lot to consider each time you hit the pitch. Even with so many other things to learn, however, one of the most important elements of your game is to learn how to shoot a football.

While you have a better chance of scoring if you shoot to the middle than up high, the odds still aren't much in your favor.

Shoot 1969

Our highlights come with commentary in Arabic, providing an immersive experience tailored to our Arabic-speaking audience. IPC launched Shoot magazine, a football comic launched in 1969 a year after Goal on the 16th August 1969 priced at 1/-. The magazine was also known for its "Star Writer" features. Each season a selection of big-name First Division players, including Alan Ball, Billy Bremner, Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Bryan Robson and Charlie Nicholas, wrote (or had ghost-written for them) columns on their football lives. This feature continued in the monthly incarnation of the magazine, with stars including Joe Cole and Danny Mills penning regular columns. Football is a team sport. And at some point while dribbling, a player will need to pass to teammates. Try these three drills, recommended by Fleming, to boost passing ability. Focus on perfecting your standard shot since you will use it most. Spend the rest of your training time practicing your straight and inside shot.
