This really is a problem for me because it could have been mentioned that it was Book 3 in a series, even though it could and should be a standalone story – and the story does stand up very well by itself. Or it would if it didn't fall down on the number of characters. One Enchanted Evening is set in the 1960s, I did love the descriptions of Nightingale Woods hotel in the beautiful countryside of Dorset. The hotel was brought to life perfectly and I had no trouble imagining myself staying there in one of the charming rooms. Katie Fforde is excellent at creating worlds. Recieved a call from her mother and leave 'swing London'. Her mother who lives in Dorset running a smaMegll hotel and need help putting on a function. The romance bit was also frustrating because I'm not such a fan of witholding information til the very end, so I didn't appreciate that we actually confirmed from Justin that he WAS with Laura, already quite near the end. Even with his feelings, it was always other people who spoke for him. I'm not a fan of that at all. because he was so silent about things, not clarifying his actions, I felt so confused for Meg.

Meg longs to be a professional cook, but in 1964 the idea of a female chef running a kitchen is considered ridiculous. Undaunted, she has plans to travel to France and work on her already impressive skills to chase her dream of becoming a pastry chef.incess in their wedding gown, so thank you for letting us make your dreams a reality! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any other questions you may have. Congratulations! This is 1966 and a pivotal point in history when life is gradually opening up with new opportunities for women. Meg comes across attitudes to her working in a professional kitchen that seem alien to us now. In some ways women’s lives have changed a lot for the better, but then again there is always room for improvement. Me8g and mother find the deeds. Should they even tell Justin or Andrew? Who does she really know as real' where you pining for geography Meg's friends are just darlings, they are so available and accomodating. Although honestly, I'd say I felt that at some parts (especially around the 60-75% sections), that they were perhaps *too available*to help her-- It sounds rather terrible of me to complain about reliable friends, but they were almost too-present to help should the need arise, given at such short notice and no matter the distance. It's just too good to be true. But yeah, it's fiction, and we are allowed to have super friends who can rearrange their plans to help you. But I guess as a reader, the down side of that is that you get used to the fact that they were ever present in her life, and you get complacent in a way that you never truly fear for Meg's challenges.

Three-Dimensional Floral Lace Appliques with Beading on Allover Patterned Glitter Net with Rhinestone Trim Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and thank you for letting us be a part of your wedding! Congrats! Meg goes to help her mother, Louise, at the hotel. It follows the ups and downs that running a country hotel entails. They desperately want to improve the hotel by adding en-suite bathrooms and improving the decoration. The owner of the hotel has recently passed away and the son’s of the owner are trying to find a mysterious third beneficiary of the hotel. Justin is a moody, handsome chef who happens to be the son of one of the sons.

I think I have read pretty much all of Katie Fforde's books, and though this wasn't my favourite, it was still an easy read.

Being set in the 1960s it meant that some of the character's views were very off compared with today and I thought it was great to see how attitudes have mostly changed. Anton Du Beke– the King of Ballroom, Strictly Come Dancing royalty, and household name – is truly making his mark as one of this generation’s all-round entertainers. Hot on the heels of his debut album From The Top, Anton now realises his boyhood ambition and will be publishing his first novel, One Enchanted Evening, later this year.would have to beat. The only reason, I didnt give the store 5 stars is because there absolutely needs to be better separation between prom/homecoming dresses and bridal dresses. We went on a Sunday and I highly recommend not going on a weekend. There were some many high school women dress shopping and arguments between daughters and moms. It was absolute mayhem. The store did try there best at keeping prom/hocco on one side and bridal on the other but there were so many high schoolers that they would sneak over to use the bridal mirrors. The three way mirrors are also farther away from where my family was sitting so it may have been nice if we started off over there? My 80 year old grandma couldn't focus because it was so busy and loud. I used to love this store =( I think this could all be fixed if there was more of a barrier to create a more private shopping experience. I did love they were open on Sundays and there is tons of space for lots of guests if thats what you want. Many popular singers have recorded and performed "Some Enchanted Evening". [12] Perry Como's version was a #1 hit in 1949, [13] and Frank Sinatra recorded the song several times. I think this is one of the best Katie Fforde romances I have read for a while. The 1960s setting, and his ambivalent feelings towards his father, totally explains Justin's attitude to Meg and her mother, yet it is also quite clear to the reader fairly early on that Justin is also quite smitten by Meg and finds any excuse to visit the hotel. Sure you have to suspend disbelief a little bit to think that a coat of paint, a bunch of flowers, and a few new cushion covers will miraculous make the hotel more inviting, but much is made of the homely (in the good sense) atmosphere, more of a home-from-home than a hotel, somewhere the aristocracy can stay while attending social events in the area. According to Popular Music in America, the song's "lush orchestration, expansive form, and above all its soaring melody" allow the singer and character (Emile) to "linger in the moment" of immediate infatuation. [10] Gerald Mast's history of the American musical notes that the song is a climactic moment which reveals that two characters have fallen in love, and it expresses a seize-the-opportunity lyric: [1] "When you find your true love ... Then fly to her side / And make her your own". According to the running commentary on the 2006 Fox DVD release of the 1958 film version of South Pacific, Lehman Engel remembered that Oscar Hammerstein II wanted to write a song based around verbs but waited ten years to do so before he wrote this song, in which the verses are built around the verbs "see", "hear" and "fly". [11] Selected recorded versions [ edit ]

What I thoroughly loved about this story was the twist though, especially as it involved my favourite character. It added a little bit of mystery to the book, and it wove beautifully through the romance without seeming like a side quest. I had a horrible experience at another bridal salon before going to One Enchanted Evening. I was extremely nervous, and had little hope of finding a dress.Dinicola, Dan. " Crossing Delancey is Refreshing", Schenectady Gazette, September 29, 1988. Retrieved April 7, 2012. Katie Fforde does an excellent job of painting beautiful descriptions of scenery throughout the story - readers will feel like they're right there with Meg whether she is in the delightful Dorset countryside or the rolling hills of Provence. Meg and Justin are a brilliant couple, I loved how now matter how hard he tried he couldn’t not love her, not help but appreciated her cooking and admit she was excellent at what she did. Louise and Andrew were a lovely couple too, the mother daughter relationship was written really well, especially with the age difference not huge.
