About this deal

When it comes to paint, it is important to first consider the options when it comes to finish. A large number of paints, from interior wall & ceiling paint to metal paint, come in a range of finishes. These finishes range in terms of sheen, otherwise known as their level of reflectivity. The more sheen a paint has, the more light it reflects and the more durable it is. Technically speaking, by adding another layer between the heat source and the air, painting a radiator will reduce its heat output. However, the difference is so small that it will not affect the efficiency of your radiators in any noticeable way.

When you are painting something, it is usually necessary to put in a bit of time and effort to prepare the surface you would like to paint on, otherwise the paint will not adhere and you will be sorely disappointed. In the case of chrome, this is where most of the work is involved. We recommend putting those extra few hours in so that you get right the first time! Preparation: Ensure surface is clean, dry, and free from contamination. Bare metal surfaces should be primed with a suitable metal primer. Previously painted surfaces (or the original factory finish) should be abraded and degreased prior to paint application. Mirror finish paints are never the best in our opinion but if you’re set on buying one, this is probably the best available in the UK.

How to remove rust from chrome radiators and towel rails

Application: Turn radiator off and allow to cool to room temperature during application and drying. Stir thoroughly before use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If rollering, use a short to medium nap mohair roller. Two coats are recommended. Temperature at time of application and during drying should be between 10° - 25°C.

Aside from paint finish, the other thing you need to consider is the type of paint you use. Paint generally comes in two broad forms; oil-based paint& water-based paint. Water-Based Paint Advantages If you’re still not convinced with a quality chrome radiator that brightens any room and maintains a clean look for many years, then know that chrome radiators are currently the most sought-after heating devices in the modern radiator market. Why wouldn’t you want to impress your guests with a top-of-the-range radiator, that retains your heating efficiency? You can’t go wrong with chrome! Chrome Radiators FAQs

Apply a layer of self-etching primer to your bumper. This primer is essential to maximizing the adhesive properties of the surface, so this step should not be avoided. Matt - the 'flattest' finish of paint that is the most popular finish for interior walls & ceilings. It is also a popular finish when used in specialist paints designed for exterior or interior use, such as metal paint & masonry paint. Now the important part, the painting. Start with your first coat of paint, using your paint brush or roller to go around the edges of the radiator. Once the edges have been painted, you can then paint the bulk of the surface. Using a mini-roller will ensure you get the best possible finish on the metal as brushes can be susceptible to brush marks. A mini-roller such as Wooster Jumbo-Koter Red Feather 4.5" Mini-Roller can be used with all eggshell, mid-sheen and high-sheen finishes, leaving a perfectly smooth, spray-like finish. Your first coat of paint once again should be a thin layer as this is aimed at creating a solid base for your final coat of paint. When choosing a new radiator it's important to know what heat output you'll need for your rooms. To work this out easily we have created a handy radiator calculator to help work this out.
