About this deal

If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Naked Malt is available in 70cl at 40% ABV. In the US & S Africa it’s available in 75cl at 43% ABV. The Edrington Group owns the Famous Grouse brand as well as The Macallan, Cutty Sark and Highland Park. This Naked Grouse has a high proportion of spirit from Macallan & Highland Park. The Macallan bringing the sweet sherry influence, and Highland Park bringing a slightly malty, smoky sharpness. The new 40% abv Naked Grouse blended malt has been made from a selection of malt whiskies – including Glenturret, Highland Park and Macallan– matured in first-fill and refill American and European oak casks, and then finished in first-fill oloroso Sherry butts for a further six months.

Convention said Blended Malt matured and got its flavour from pre-used Bourbon casks. This got us thinking, what if instead we used first-fill sherry casks to add another layer of rich and fruity flavour to our unique blend of single malts? These are casks that have never held whisky, Naked Casks we call them. This liberating leap into the unknown didn’t just work, it was a joyful exuberance of flavour that changed the possibilities of whisky enjoyment! – Famous Grouse Convention said that blended malt got its flavour from bourbon casks, used again and again. This got us thinking… What if instead, we used first fill sherry casks to add another layer of rich and fruity flavour to our malts? It didn’t just work, it was a joyful exuberance of flavour that changed the possibilities of whisky enjoyment.” Konklusion: The blended malt is said to have notes of fudge, cooked apples and cherries, and is designed as a session whisky to be drunk on its own or with cherry cola. Now the expression is being relaunched as a standalone brand made from a selection of malt whiskies but without any grain, offeringa ‘more robust’ flavour than its blended predecessor. By the time Matthew Gloag died in 1860, the family business portfolio focused mostly on wines and his son, William Gloag, largely continued this trend.

First launched in 2011 as a blended Scotch matured in first-fill Sherry casks, The Naked Grouse was billed as a ‘smoother, sweeter’ addition to The Famous Grouse extended family. The Naked Grouse brand is uncomplicated; we’re trying to debunk terminology, so we don’t want to get bogged down in the technical side of what it is. It tastes great and that’s it.’

Matthew Irving Gloag retires from the company due to ill health. The last Gloag to be involved in the company, he remains a consultant for lifeNo partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. In 1870, following Matthew’s death, the company was sold to Highland Distillers (the same company that owns Macallan as of 1996). From there, the whisky has gained a much wider appeal, becoming the most popular whisky in Scotland in 1980 and being awarded a Royal Warrant in 1984. Whiskybase B.V. We’ve pulled it out of Famous Grouse, so it will be a brand in its own right,’ she said. ‘We are trying to make it as simple as possible by moving away from some of the stereotypes of whisky and doing something for older millennials.

Consumers and bartenders are looking for something more unique, which is why we wanted to move the brand on and change it.’Originally, The Famous Grouse was priced lower than the Grouse Brand. In a little over 10 years, the reverse would be true thanks to the popularity of The Famous Grouse. As if to emphasise the family connection, it was Matthew III’s daughter, Phillippa, who drew the very first, and now famous, red grouse that we see on the bottle. I enjoy this whisky and I hope that when Edrington sold Glenturret to Art & Terroir they were able to write in some stipulations about getting access to barrels to keep this brand going without having to dramatically change it. They also sold off Cutty Sark to La Martiniquaise at the same time, so who knows what’s going to happen with that one. But for now they’re holding on to all the Grouse brands so I’m hoping they can keep this going and keep it tasty. Anyways, time to drink! That’s a pretty bold statement, I know, but I haven’t been too enthused with the latest releases of Highland Park 12 or Macallan 12; neither one is really hitting the strides they used to. As for Glenturret and Glenrothes… well… I’ve never been a big Glenrothes fan and this exceeds nearly every one I’ve had. Glenturret I’ve had a few here and there, but nothing that’s ever made me purposefully seek them out – hence the statement above. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. The first thing I like about this bottle is that there is practically no label! One of my biggest pet peeves with whiskey bottles (and especially with the Famous Grouse brand) is that you can’t really see what you are buying. That amber colored spirit is the star of the show, and the bottle should accentuate and display it as much as possible. A huge label like the typical Famous Grouse varieties sport just hides it, but with this version the whiskey is large and in charge.
